Hi Everyone, some important info and updates:
Tour of Army Corps Operations: The Army Corps of Engineers is scaling up the number of crews they have working on lot clearance and are making swift progress. They continue to ramp up crews and aim to finish Phase II debris clearance ahead of schedule (provided they have unfettered access to PCH and Temescal Canyon Rd where they have set up their debris sorting, crushing and hauling operation). Col Weander gave Suisman and Zar a comprehensive tour of their operations in the Palisades Fire burn area (this includes Big Rock and Malibu), showing us their vast operation, scaled clearance and complex logistics. With more and more lots being cleared and indications that many people plan to rebuild, Palisades will need a
logistics plan in place to start the rebuilding process in an organized manner.
If you’d like a tour of the ACE operations please email me with your availability on Wednesday April 9th at 10am. (limited space)
PPCC plan presentation on Thursday: On Thursday, April 10th, we will present our draft logistics plan for the systemic launch of the rebuilding of Pacific Palisades to PPCC at 6PM, by Zoom. Please join. We have made some bold suggestions and envisioned innovative solutions to the perils ahead. The community will want to consider these suggestions and begin to visualize the scope of the recovery ahead. I’ll be encouraging people to give feedback and ask questions so we can provide responses and gain the confidence of the community.
Councilwoman Park and CD11’s partnership: Our coalition brain trust has been working on this for months (since we first met on March 4th), with the promise that we would take it to the community for feedback, and then to the city for implementation. Councilwoman Park and her team have embraced the plan and will bring city agencies and experts to develop it, with community feedback, to the point of implementation.
We have also partnered with the Council Office on a Palisades specific survey that will be sent out through their list-serve as well as our own email list. I will ask all of you who belong to organizations to send the survey to your members as well. The suggested questions are attached. The survey will be posted to the new PaliRecovery website, coming later this week.
Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be on April 15th with State Senator Ben Allen to talk about the role of the State in our recovery. This will include discussions of State investment in fire fighting infrastructure, brush clearance, and funding for materials through (perhaps) a Disaster Recovery District. It will also involve a discussion of insurance, and insurability for Palisadians, as we rebuild. The State can bring insurance companies to the table so we can understand how to rebuild in order to be fire resilient and insurable!
Listening Sessions: LA County has contracted with McChrystal Group to conduct a series of three “listening sessions” to get feedback from Pacific Palisades and Altadena regarding the alerts, warnings and evacuation. Please see the flyer for dates and locations (first one on Monday April 7th).
