Palisades Recovery Coalition June 24 Updates & Community News

🔹 Resilient Vision: Community Charrettes Begin – June 28

In the wake of the Palisades Fire, the Pali Recovery Coalition, in partnership with Resilient Palisades, RAND’s Pardee Center volunteers, UCLA Luskin, the American Red Cross, and the American Legion, is launching a series of neighborhood based visioning charrettes. These collaborative planning workshops will give residents a chance to reimagine their community through the lens of climate adaptation, fire
resilience, and 21st-century public safety.

Unlike technical or entitlement-focused meetings, these charrettes are about community foresight—a space to consider what it means to live in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ) and how we can collectively shape a more resilient future. The charrettes will explore themes such as nature-based buffers and collective preparedness. We begin with Marquez Knolls and Las Casas, two hillside neighborhoods central to our recovery.

  • Location: American Legion, 15247 La Cruz Drive
  • Date: Saturday, June 28, 2025
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • RSVP & Details: See attached flyer and rsvp link

Your input will directly inform our recovery roadmap and future grant applications. Let’s
build back stronger—together.

🔹 Farewell to Col. Eric Swenson – July 2

After more than a year embedded in our community, Col. Eric Swenson of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will complete his tour of duty on July 3. Under his leadership, the Corps executed one of the fastest, safest, and most community integrated debris removal operations in recent California history—clearing over 1,000 sites and setting a new standard for transparency and coordination.

  • Playground & Bocce Courts: Expected to re-open in late July, ahead of
    schedule

Congratulations to Laura Schneider, Chair, Friends of the Library, and to the PAB as well as Jimmy Dunne for outstanding leadership and swift action as part of the cultural recovery of Pacific Palisades.
